LIVING ORLANDO HISTORY
ONLY IN ORLANDO

1) That weird 6'
replica of the Statue of Liberty off of I-4 downtown. - Ben
2) The Holy Land theme park! (Nothing says Orlando like a Noah's Arc inspired
wild and crazy rapids ride)! - Chris
3) Of course the best thing in Orlando would have to be Thornton Threads in
Thornton Park, the best shopping in the world, across from Planet Smoothie and
Dexter's. It's my fav spot in O town.
-Kimberely & Miette.
4) The quintessential Orlando landmark is obviously the Booby Trap (now Club
Harem) - on Lee Rd. I seriously can't believe you said anything else, Ben! --
Alicia
5) Ok, since Alicia took the Booby Trap, I have to go with the crazy Asian
pagoda on Lake Eola. We have sister cities! Yeah! -- Shannon
6) near the Booby Trap would be: Skycraft Surplus! (that's what it was called,
right? the crazy place with the UFO on it?) -- Greg
7) really?? no Beefy King yet???? --kat
8) Xanadu - Those weird rounded white ultra space age buildings on Hwy 192 in
Kissimmee that used to be a cheesy 'Home of the Future' attraction back in the
'70s. My parents used to take us there on Sunday afternoons. Last time I saw 'em
they were empty and gray and lonely - a sad fate for something I once thought
was the coolest thing in the world. - Kali
9) Galaxie and d.i.y. records being right next door on Mills Ave! Kali could
smell my vege-burgers cookin' and I had a place to go shopping right next door!
- Jodi :)

20) The Kit Kat Klub....my fave!!!! I miss that rank hole. ~Teresa
21) ALL the Crack HOZ on OBT....I go there where I'm lonely. ~ Trini
22) The 10 foot tall Black and White Great Dane statue that was out in front of
a trucking company on N. OBT until one of the fucking hurricanes took him down!
(and cheers to the person who mentioned Beefy King! Long live BEEFY KING!!)
ashley
23) Cocoa Beach @ Coconut's - where every weekend %83.5 of the people there are
from Orlando. -jimmy
24) will's on mills. please visit before it's a parking lot. - larry (ps: where
the fuck is the 6' tall statue of liberty? i've been looking since i read this a
few days ago)
25) Olde Dixie Fried Chicken on Orange - Brandi
26) athena's greek cafe on maitland ave-goodf food and cheap!-patty
27)Balet on Mills in the Viet. District... you can get the yummiest chicken
sandwiches for 2.50, and they make every dessert you can think of and they're
all like 3.50, AND they also have tons of cheap/good Vietnamese food. Good god,
I love that place! - Jamie

(And bravo to Leia for the bread/I4 and Ashley for the Great Dane-- I LOVED that
dog!)
- Katie B.
33) The vegan hotdog guy downtown, or whoever is running atm. Love those cheap
healthy snacks while Im drunk.
34) club nowhere! sunday afternoon hardcore--greening! those WERE the days.
35) Sunday School at Firestone. back when there where no stupid laws - Pedro
36) the 2 best bars in the world. the go lounge (r.i.p.) & wallys on mills (home
of the strongest drink, the oldest bar tenders & silver naked lady wallpaper) -
peter von
37) my old favorite hang out in college, YAB YUM, where you could sit and drink
chocolatey coffee, smoke cloves (just to be cool and smelly) and listen to bad
poetry. I also hung out with a few homeless kids in Wall Street Plaza, until
they stole a baby Jesus and stuck a lit candle on his belly and brought it
inside. That pissed a few people off and so I thought it best not to associate
myself with their shenanigans.- michelle
38)Those phenomally gorgeous Rollins girls. (Whoever said Club
39) This actually is in Kissimmee, but close enough. The Big BamBoo Lounge on US

are to be put there) ---Helen
40) The World's Largest Single-Planed Board (Guinness Book running record),
which was until recently displayed out in front of that lumber place by Will's

-Hannah (damn where did that thing go anyway? Anybody know?)
41) I Could Name Several ... Both Past And Present ... Currently
And For 23 Years Running : Park Avenue CDs (Has Always Had The Best Selection Of
New And Used CDs ...) And As Far As Tacky ... Mark And Lorna Performing Almost
Nightly At The Red Fox Lounge In Lovely Winter Park ... They Are An Orlando
Treasure ... For Sure. I'd Be Cheating Myself It I Didn't Give A Mention To Days
Gone By ... MURMUR Records In College Park ... I'd Say A Lot Of Old Orlando
Folks Practically Grew Up There ... And Even Met The Ramones There ! Sniff Sniff
... I Miss Those Days. And Don't Ever Forget The Glorious Langford Hotel ...
It's A Damn Shame That The "Historical Society" Couldn't Help Save That Place !
I Think Orlando's Secret Motto Must Be : "If It's Old And Cool And Has Any
Cultural Or Historical Significance ... We'd Better Bulldoze It And Put Up
Something New And Generic !"
42) The little pink car sticking up out of the dirt under the I-4 overpass at
Anderson St.
43) The Spotted Zebra (from waaaaay back)
44)Mystery Fun House- and WHAT!....Scara

there!...also JJ Whispers(Cloud 9)...and Cyberzone(also Infinity)......and the
legendary Aahz at the beacham theater!!! sorry i had to add more than one!!!
Def Jeff...
46) Jeff, you missed the Abyss! That place was way cool with the crazy face
painted on the dancefloor, the secret passage, the small room upstairs in the
back that you could view out of, the wacky art in the back courtyard, the cheesy
smart drinks, and cheesy pseudo-futuristic decor... and those beat up couches...
Parties that would start on a friday night and end monday morning... yeah, that
was freaking fun.
47) Ultra Violet . . . both of them. The first UV located downtown and then the
UV after that which was located in that shady area on SR 50. Next to 7-11. That
was my stompin' ground. Oh yeah, and what about the HOOCHIE HOUSE? hehehe ~ Miss
Tamara
48) Daaammnnn, Tamara, good one... How about the two other locations of
Ultraviolet - it's inagural location out on East Aloma ave... and for about 6
weeks it was downtown above Ichiban before it moved to be in what would later
become the Kit Kat club. The Ichiban location was sooo cool, yet so shortlived,
but was probably my favorite one. ~Gabriel
49) And speaking of, how about Kit Kat club, and Go Lounge. How cool were those
places? I miss them. The Kit Kat has all the painting of naked fat people - my
theory was they were there to promote beer goggles for those singles in the
club. They weirded me out a little bit though. And Go had all the style in the
universe.
50)the fact that Orlando was and still is the only "city of light".. named by Bush senior, and that is the reason for the "crazy" big apsaragus statue sitting on the corner in front of city hall.. ( small fact. Xanudu is gone.. leveled, the bunny statue has about 2000 of it's own kind on the internet, the minature statue of liberty once had a smiley face mask put on it... (by David Jordon.. old school art guru). Frankie /APARTMENT E
51)... those damn “blue” boxes downtown that they wanted the homeless to stay in to beg.. what an embarrassment... Frankie
52) Yay for the vegan
hotdog stand...good times! What's up with calling a street "Red Bug Lake Road" ?
Is it an insect...a body of water...or a street? I mean it seems like someone
put off making a fairly simple decision here.... -Andrea
53) Foam parties/techno nights at Firestone. Slippery creepy fun for all!!!!-Jen
54) the foam parties rocked!!! except for the itching afterward...
while other cities may have cows or horses, orlando is home to all those painted
"lizzy" lizard statues.
55)Ybor's Downtown BEST MARTINIS IN O-TOWN!!! ~Alyssa
56) First a shoutout to the warm bread smell on I-4 and the vegan hotdog guy
downtown. But for my O-Town memory, I'm going to have to go with Wed. nights at
Chillers and rooftop drinks at Latitudes...did anyone EVER drink at Big Belly
Brewery? I could never understand why they had that floor... ~Georgie
57) How about Terror on Church Street, way back in the day
58) When 80's night used to be at Cairo on sunday, Beat Collectors, When working
at Auntie Anne's pretzels in Fashion Square was cooler than working at Whole
Foods. - Saldutti: who pretty much hates this town.
59) Oh yeah when there was no I-Bar and 97% of Orlando wasn't Indie Rock. By the
way Red Bug Lake is behind Red Bug Park, which is off of Red Bug lake
Road........ Saldutti
60) Club alpha and the bean scene. ~Katie
61) Peaches record store on 50 (Colonial) and the flower shop next door called
Silk Silk Silk where someone got shot, Colonial Mall (anyone? anyone?), "Tires
ain't pretty", "Come on down to Tropic Traveller Vans. Of course, yours comes
with a roof.", Y.K. Kim's Karate, parties on Judge Rd. off Conway, the month
when the World Cup came to Orlando, "Nightmare on Pine Street" (many years prior
to Nightmare on Church Street), and the gigantic plank of wood that's been
propped up on the front of the lumber yard at the intersection of Mills and
Virginia near Will's Pub and the Orlando Science Center. Seriously, that thing's
been propped up against the wall for at least twenty years now. - John
62) (Kudos to mentioning 'Terror on Church Street'--loved that place). The FX
convention every January or February. Art in the Park at Lake Eola the first
weekend in Novemeber. Petting zoo (among other things) at Disney's Ft.
Wilderness (one of the few Disney places you can go for free). Celebration, the
creepy Twilight Zone-esque town that Disney built. Splendid China--didn't last
too long. Stardust Video & Coffee in Winter Park. The Time Machine (chain of
arcades with classic stuff)--not around anymore, unfortunately.
63) I dont know if anyone mentioned "Natura" or Movies on PArk Ave. or the
Enzian but if someone did then I must say Thanks to the Citgo on University and
GoldenRod. run by Arabs that sells liquor not only past 2AM but to underage
drinkers!!! Thank yoU!!!!
64) When QZAR was downtown, or existed in general! DZ - Discovery Zone and I
can't believe no one mentioned SHE 100.3 The best radio station in history!
65) Let's see...anyone remember Splendid China...lmao....ummmm Waterford Lakes
Town Center...The Rainbow Store on Mills...Leu Gardens...all the UCF

place to have a birthday party. lol Like DZ Discovery Zone. & Hot n' now fast
food place. there hamburgers were like 49 cents and they were good.
67) Allright, so I haven't lived in orlando for a while, but im back this
weekend and frankly, I'm dissapointed....y'all talk about the boobie trap(which
100% deserves to be on the list) but what about Club Juana? Orlando's only nude
playhouse? i mean come on people! or the 8pm fireworks from disney if you live
in south orlando....and high five for beefy king AND the bread smell...i love
driving on I-4 for just that!!!
68) ZUMA BEACH... now Tabu, and when the social was the saphire supper club. and

commercials. The free parking lots downtown, WPRK Rollins College Radio, Old
School Church Street. Park Ave CD's.
